Have you been dealing with little kids that refuse to eat healthily? Well, this is a predicament most parents have to face at least once in their lifetime. Today, we’re bringing you five fun DIY treats to feed your children yummy bites. All of these treats can be made at home with the least amount of ingredients! If you’re ready to put an end to fussy eating, read on below!
Fruit Yogurt
Yogurt is an excellent source of calcium and protein for your child. However, the flavored brands found outside may contain too many additives and artificial sugar. If you have a bowl of plain yogurt at home, all you need to do is add fruit to create a flavored sweet treat. Simply blend the fruit of your choice or availability with yogurt until smooth, and serve it to them with a few dehydrated fruit toppings!
DIY Marshmallows
If you wish to reward your fussy-eating child for finishing their leafy greens and broccoli, here’s a recipe that will put stars in their eyes. And the best part is, you can put them to task to help you out! DIY marshmallows are incredibly simple to make, where you can skip the artificial sugar and use maple syrup or honey to maintain the sweetness, vanilla bean paste for flavor, and gelatin powder. While flour is the main ingredient, premium gelatin will help the marshmallows become soft and fluffy. High-quality gelatin powder is absolutely safe and healthy for your child to consume, negating the adulterated versions that you get at the store. Once you combine it with the flour, set it in a flat vessel and later ask your younglings to help with cookie cutters as you shape them.
Sweet Potato Wedges (baked)
If your kid has the knack for loving french fries, here is an alternative that the entire family can enjoy. All you need to do is take a few sweet potatoes and peel them. Cut them into small wedges or fry-like pieces and submerge them in cold water for 15 minutes. Once you strain off the water, add a drizzle of olive oil to the bowl of wedges along with some seasoning. Lay them flat on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake until crisp on the outside!
Egg & Veggie Muffins
If your kids hate veggies and refuse to eat them boiled, you can chop them up and mix them with a batch of eggs. Add some salt, pepper, and seasoning to taste. In a muffin mold, line the slots with parchment paper and fill them with this liquid. Bake in a preheated oven for 10 minutes for a delicious snack or lunch.
Veggie Sticks & Hummus
When all else fails, whip up a batch of freshly made hummus with boiled chickpeas, lemon juice, salt, garlic powder, and paprika. Blend them till it’s a smooth mixture and use veggies like carrot sticks and celery as a dip.
The Takeaway
While it is a blessing to have a child that throws no tantrums regarding their dietary routine, more often than not you’ll see plenty of noisy protests! Chicken nuggets and fried foods are tasty, but surely don’t make the best choice to feed your little ones if you want them to stay healthy. We hope these recipes help you change the narrative!
