Have you ever felt that you’re letting life pass you by and don’t know how to live it to the fullest? This happens to everyone at some point, but there are things you can do to help take advantage of the amazing opportunity that is life.

Living life to the fullest is an individual thing that will look different for everyone. Some people imagine their best life with a family, others imagine themselves purchasing that new Chevrolet for sale, and others envision themselves traveling.

Living a full life in a general way means feeling a sense of purpose, accomplishment, and joy in what you are doing. Here are four tips you can consider to help you feel like you are living life to the fullest.

1. Be Grateful

Gratitude is an underestimated way of living life more fully. As you pay attention to the good parts of your life, and focus in on them, you will come to see things differently. Sometimes life and happiness are simply about perspective. It’s easy to get caught up in the downs, so if you can appreciate all you have, the people that are there for you, your experiences, your belongings, and your journey, you can come to feel that life really is fulfilling, even on the downswing.

Practicing gratitude can look like making a phone call to a trusted person, writing what you’re grateful for in a journal, or simply saying out loud every night what you were thankful for that day. Make gratitude a habit for a full life.

2. Surround Yourself With Joy

Check your surroundings. Are you surrounded with things you love, people you love, and experiences you love? If the answer is no, then it may be time to rectify that. And while you may not love everything about your life, you can purposefully ensure that there is at least one thing that makes you happy each day. Go take that walk, call that person, eat at that restaurant, take that nap, or paint that picture. Whatever it is, make time and space every day for something that brings you joy.

3. Visualize It

Visualization is recommended by experts to help you reach your goals. Envision what your life would be like if you were living it fully. What would you be doing? Who would you be with? Where?

Then, make a list of things you can do to make your life more like your visualization. If needed, go more in-depth to make goals as specific as possible. You can write this out or make a collage to help remind you what you want and are working towards.

4. Be Kind

Another great way to feel purpose and meaning is to think about others. Much like gratitude, this can seem counterintuitive. However, as you make time to help others live a better life, yours will become better, too. Service and kindness help you feel more connected to others and realize that you can make a difference.

Have Hope

By repeatedly practicing these techniques, you will start to understand how fulfilling and joyful your life is. Give them a try and see how life gets better.
